Bluglass Ltd

Success Stories

Bluglass is a manufacturer of machinery used in LED and solar cell research. The business consciously aims to deliver more energy efficient processes for the production of low energy lighting, and its small workforce is committed to minimising waste and making efficient use of resources. The company’s manufacturing process produces clean water as a waste by-product. The water is unsuitable for use in its chemical process so is collected in a 1000-L palletised container. The 1000 L generated each fortnight is currently reused on the premises in cleaning and watering plants. Remaining water is used to dilute concentrated chemical wastewater containing acids, bases and solvents, that is stored for later collection and treatment by a waste management company.

Bluglass is a manufacturer of machinery used in LED and solar cell research. The business consciously aims to deliver more energy efficient processes for the production of low energy lighting, and its small workforce is committed to minimising waste and making efficient use of resources. The company’s manufacturing process produces metal scrap that is unsuitable for reuse, including 50 kg of mild steel and 200-300 kg of non-ferrous (Al, Cu, SS, brass) metal swarf. This is sold as scrap on a daily buying rate, mild steel being the exception for which there is no daily price. Stainless steel scrap is stockpiled and sold once a year to scrap metal merchants.
